Forensic Audio: Myths, Promises, and Realities

If only it were true, as the televised CSI seems to promise, that any audio recording could be made intelligible with a little bing from a computer. The realities of forensic audio may surprise you—amazing things are possible, but not all things.

All Forensic Investigators Are Not Created Equal

I've always had a predilection toward incident response and forensics — it gives me a rush. While some of us love it, others just do it because it's a J-O-B. What I've noticed during the last year is that there is a distinct separation in the forensic community in skills and focus.

Computer Forensics is Different for Police and Other Law Enforcement

Computer forensics practices and procedures can diverge significantly depending upon whether the investigation is criminal or civil litigation. Standards for data collection evidence can be different, as can the process of data collection and imaging.
