Sexual Predators Exploit Apps to Target Kids

Gary Schatz traveled this year from Sunrise to a place in Boynton Beach where he expected to meet a 15-year-old boy. As happens in many such police sting operations, Schatz instead encountered undercover detectives, who took him into custody.
What was unusual about this arrest was that police found Schatz, 59, using a social networking application, the newest and hottest trend in technology, to seek prey. Schatz was convicted in the case.
Police have known for years that predators comb the websites of Craigslist or Backpage in search of youngsters. But with the expansion of wireless Internet availability, those same predators are now using “apps” on smartphones and tablets to find victims.
